Omnibus Theatre has announced the world première revival of Fiji, co-written by Eddie Loodmer-Elliott, Pedro Leandro and Evan Lordan, which originally ran at Omnibus Theatre to critical acclaim. Fiji will run at the Pleasance Upstairs at the Pleasance Courtyard, 8 – 29 August at 1.55pm, with press performances on 8 and 9 August.

Second Thought Theatre begins its sixteenth season with the area premiere of Mlima's Tale by Lynn Nottage. Tiana Kaye Blair makes her STT directing debut with this year's season opener. Mlima's Tale begins with previews on Wednesday, February 19 and runs through Saturday, March 14. I have to admit, when I first saw that WaterTower Theatre's season touted a modern adaptation of A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen, I was wary. Modernizing a classic is a risk whose success depends largely on motive. If done as a conscious and careful choice, it can deepen an audience's understanding of the piece. If done haphazardly, perhaps to cover an inadequate budget or a director's cursory understanding of the original text, it may have some fun modern elements, but they will likely be distracting rather than illuminating. Thankfully, WaterTower offers a sophisticated and enlightening modernization. Director and adapter Joanie Schultz modernizes the language and keeps the design firmly rooted in history. The choice to adapt does not hide a lack of understanding on Schultz's part - it in fact shows a true depth of understanding and familiarity with the text. It certainly does not disguise an insufficient budget; elaborate and historically correct fashions created by Melissa Panzarello and Amy Poe, in conjunction with a marvelous set designed by Chelsea M. Warren, convincingly portray the wealth of the late 17th century family at the heart of the drama. And if Schultz feared the audience might not understand? Rather than putting a band aid on that fear with some flashy modern props, she digs into the root of the misunderstanding, the translation from old Norwegian into modern English.

People's Light kicks off its 2018/2019 Season with Such Things as Vampires, a highly theatrical folk-punk twist on the Dracula tale. Infused with lilting ballads, rock anthems, and melodious love songs, this concert-theatre event is an irreverent, bloody, and wickedly fun retelling of Bram Stoker's 1897 gothic masterpiece. Such Things as Vampires runs September 20 - October 31 on the Steinbright Stage in Malvern. Tickets range from $30-$50.

After producing six world premiere plays by Philadelphia playwrights, Orbiter 3 is presenting their seventh and final production this May: A People by L M Feldman. In just three years Orbiter 3 has brought new work by local playwrights to the stage (six of the seven plays directed by women) and leaves a legacy of creating sustainable and radical theatre.

First Unity announces the launch of ARTS46/4. Named for First Unity's location on 46th Avenue and 4th Street North in St. Petersburg, ARTS46/4 is an independent-yet-integrated venue / producing partner to bridge the Arts community with First Unity Spiritual Campus.  In April, ARTS46/4 will kick-off with a five month arts initiative, which includes both a dedicated Arts component in all the Sunday services, and producing a series of public special events featuring well-known members of Tampa Bay's thriving Arts community.      

People's Light presents I Will Not Go Gently, the latest award-winning, one-woman show from Philadelphia's queen of comedy, Jennifer Childs. In the style of Anna Deavere Smith and Lily Tomlin, with original songs by Childs and Christopher Colucci, this outrageous tour de force introduces a cadre of colorful characters, like music maven Sierra Mist, who straddle the gap between past and future-deadly sincere, impossibly hopeful, and ready to rock. A comedic musical journey across the tricky terrain of middle age, I Will Not Go Gently storms across the Steinbright Stage in Malvern from March 21 through April 15, 2018.

In just their first two years of producing work Orbiter 3, the theatre company helmed by some of Philadelphia's most renowned playwrights, has been nominated for 12 Barrymore Awards. Now the world premiere of Sam Henderson's The Brownings, marks the beginning of the end for Orbiter 3, as they prepare to shut their doors in mid-2018.

The UK tour of Frederick Knott's thriller, WAIT UNTIL DARK, starring Jack Ellis (Bad Girls) as Mike, Oliver Mellor (Coronation Street) as Sam Henderson and Karina Jones as Susy, with Graeme Brookes as Croker, Tim Treloar as Roat, Shannon Rewcroft as Gloria and Thomas McCarron as Policeman, opened at Devonshire Park Theatre in Eastbourne on 24 August.
