Barry Manilow--who penned the musical Harmony among his many pop hits will perform on the March 22nd edition of "American Idol," which airs on Fox on Tuesdays at 8 PM and Wednesdays at 9 PM ET according to the American Idol Blog.

There are eleven finalists left in this week's "American Idol," the popular reality show/talent competition that sends some singers home and others on to recording fame after the audience votes.

The Idol blog reports that "This coming Tuesday, the Top 11 take on the songs of the '50s. Will they be singing Elvis or Buddy Holly or... Find out Tuesday night, starting at 8/7c! Then, come back on Wednesday for the Results show and a very special performance by the legendary Barry Manilow! All the fun on Wednesday starts at 9/8c." This fits in with the theme of Manilow's latest CD, "The Greatest Songs of the Fifties" which debuted at No. 1 on U.S. pop charts.

Manilow collaborated with librettist/lyricist Bruce Sussman on Harmony, which follows a group of six singers called The Comedian Harmonists (some of whom are Jewish) through Weimar-era and then Nazi Germany. First presented at the La Jolla Playhouse, the Broadway-bound musical failed to make it to New York due to funding problems. Copacabana is another musical that Manilow wrote with Sussman (as well as Jack Feldman); songs from both can be heard on the album "Manilow Scores."
