12 Year Old Composer Joshua Turchin And Garth Kravits Bridge Generations With THE PERFECT FIT

The Perfect Fit, a new family musical featuring book, music and lyrics by twelve-year-old musical sensation Joshua Turchin (The Little Mermaid Live-To-Film, Forbidden Broadway Salutes Carol Channing, A Christmas Story National Tour, TrevorLive, The Pill) will be making its world premiere this Summer in a staged developmental production that will run August 11 - 23 as part of the Rave Theater Festival. Directed by Broadway veteran Garth Kravits (Drowsy Chaperone, Gettin' the Band Back Together), The Perfect Fit will run at the Teatro Latea Theater, at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, 107 Suffolk Street, 2nd Floor.

World Premiere of DIDO THE QUEEN to Open in June at The Flamboyan Theater

Longtime artistic collaborators, Willa Bassen (Librettist and Dramaturg) and Nick Robertson (Director and Orchestrator) present the world premiere of Dido the Queen - A Folk Opera.  This bluegrass inspired, puppet infused adaptation of Purcell's Dido & Aeneas has been specifically created for high school audiences by Bassen and Robertson from June 17–19 with five performances at the Flamboyan Theater at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural Center (107 Suffolk St).  Performance schedule varies, please see calendar below.  Ticket prices are $15 and can be purchased in advance by visiting www.BrownPaperTickets.com.  (Service charges will apply.) Dido the Queen - A Folk Opera runs 75 minutes, no intermission.

Magical Music for Life Foundation is thrilled to present its 5th annual TUNES IN TIMES SQUARE benefit concert Sunday, May 1, 2016 on Broadway between 42nd & 43rd Streets in Times Square. The goal of the concert is to raise financial support to produce a new original album of songs for water safety applicable to children with and without specials needs, awareness of our music, and funds to perform our musical written especially for children with autism and other special needs. The event will be a continuous sing-a-thon, where talented children and groups from six states will come together to share the same stage with over 70 Broadway performers from most of the current shows and many past shows. Javanna Productions M.O.V.E. and Mackensi and Company present ZOE and Friends, a one night event to benefit the MORE THAN ME Foundation. MORE THAN ME operates in Liberia to provide girls in the West Point slum with access to Education. The MORE THAN ME Academy is the first tuition-free, all girls school in Liberia. In addition to education, MORE THAN ME provides young women with two meals a day, access to healthcare, a library and computer lab, and an after school program aimed at keeping girls off the streets.

Original The Color Purple Broadway cast member, Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, who has played the role of Shug Avery since the musical began performances at the Broadway Theatre in November 2005 and throughout its entire record-breaking run, will begin a hiatus from the role on Thursday, January 31, 2008. The Tony nominated actress will return to the role for the final two performances of The Color Purple on Sunday, February 24, 2008. Beginning on Friday, February 1, 2008, Angela Robinson assumes the role of Shug Avery while Withers-Mendes is on leave.
