MILWAUKEE, WIS. 11/06/2014 – The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra announces an assortment of holiday concerts this season, beginning with Cirque Musica Holiday on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, Under the Mistletoe with Ashley Brown on December 5-7, 2014, The Polar Express on Saturday, December 6, 2014, and Messiah on December 17-21, 2014.

In Grateful Rejoicing honors the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Irving Fine, one of America's most richly-gifted composers, will be celebrated in a program featuring his impressive Violin Sonata and his delectable song cycle, Childhood Fables for Grown-Ups, along with Copland's epic Piano Quartet.

ODYSSEY OPERA, a new, Boston-based opera company dedicated to exploring the full spectrum of adventurous repertoire, presents a set of three fully staged operas: Verdi's Un giorno di regno, Pietro Mascagni's Zanetto, and Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari's Il segreto di Susanna. With a mission of bringing to life the finest rare operas with stellar artists, Odyssey offers an ambitious line-up of works to supplement the traditional operatic repertoire. This new season follows Odyssey's debut last September in a critically acclaimed concert performance of Wagner's Rienzi, and offers for the first time a mini-festival of fully-staged productions. Minnesota Opera presents a major new revival of Dominick Argento's The Dream of Valentino as the sixth production of the New Works Initiative. A sultry young dancer is transformed from an unknown immigrant into a silent film sensation. Rudolph Valentino's stardom blazes across the silver screen but is quickly consumed by the same forces that ignited it. Seduction and scandal swirl in this tango-tinged opera about an artist discovered and destroyed by Hollywood. Composed by Argento with a libretto by Charles Nolte as a joint commission between Washington and Dallas opera companies, the work received its world premiere in 1994 at The Kennedy Center, where it was described by the Chicago Tribune as “visually and theatrically ... a thumping success.”

The Coterie, a downtown New York-based music theater company, goes uptown to the Church of the Advent Hope (111 East 87th Street) tonight, September 9th at 8:00pm to present their latest concert of seven world premieres and past favorites celebrating the company's commitment to musical storytelling, from operatic arias and art song to indy rock jams and musical theater numbers.

Three-time Tony Award-nominated actor Marc Kudisch (Thoroughly Modern Millie, 9 to 5, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) joins Lauren Worsham (Dog Days, Where's Charley?), Joshua Jeremiah (Anna Nicole, La Perichole), Katie Thompson (Giant), Theresa McCarthy (Queen of the Mist, Floyd Collins, Titanic), Eve Gigliotti (Dark Sisters, Die Walkure at the Metropolitan Opera), Amelia Watkins (Sumeida's Song, Song from the Uproar), Jeff Gavett (loadbang), Cree Carrico (New York Philharmonic's Carousel) in singing for 'The Coterie: Downtown/Uptown.'

Minnesota Opera is pleased to announce casting updates for the 2013–2014 season, which boasts three company premieres and five productions new to Minnesota audiences. Based on anticipated demand, the boundary-busting production of The Magic Flutewill receive nine performances. Other season highlights include James Valenti starring in the premiere of a revised The Dream of Valentino by Dominick Argento as part of Minnesota Opera's New Works Initiative; Kelly Kaduce in an opulent production of Puccini's soulful Manon Lescaut; Jacquelyn Wagner, Elizabeth Futral, Brian Jagde and Craig Irvin in a stylish production of Strauss' romantic comedy, Arabella; and Verdi's chilling take on the Shakespearean thriller, Macbeth, starring Brenda Harris and Greer Grimsley. Minnesota Opera is also pleased to announce the roster for the 2013–2014 Resident Artist Program, as well as unveil a new website.

New York City all-female group Red Molly returns to The Barns At Wolf Trap to deliver their polished covers and original arrangements, featuring bluegrass harmonies, crooning lullabies, and a Western twang.

Dark Sisters is a suspenseful, emotional, and lyrical depiction of one woman's struggle with life and faith and the universal dilemma of whether to stay or leave. The opera opens a window into the lives of Eliza and her sister wives, members of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints (FLDS), a polygamous sect based in the southwestern United States. Creators Muhly and Karam have drawn inspiration from the crush of media attention surrounding two of the many raids on FLDS compounds (the 2008 raid at the Yearning for Zion Ranch in Eldorado, TX and the 1953 raid at Short Creek, AZ), as well as from the stories of the more than 80 wives of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.
