The performances are approximately one hour and appropriate for children four and up. Free babysitting is available for those too young to enjoy the show quietly.
"A Disney Spectacular" is a celebration of the wonderful world of Walt Disney, a place where elephants fly, chimney sweeps dance and where every wish comes true. Young audience members are encouraged to use their imaginations to help a young Walt Disney bring to life on stage many of the most beloved Disney princesses, princes, and even the villains! Featuring music from classic to modern Disney including "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah," "I've Got No Strings," "Be Our Guest," "Under the Sea," "Friend Like Me" and more, the production is a non-stop musical extravaganza!
The show opens in the year 1912 when the young, super imaginative Walt Disney (Christina Dietzler of Glenolden) opens up a special 10th birthday present from his father (Andrew DePaul of Havertown), mother (Samantha Fioravanti of Conshohocken) and sister Ruth (Monica Fisher of Springfield). The present is a drawing pad, and they encourage Walt to draw the characters he has created in his mind. Soon, Walt the dreamer uses his imagination and creativity to make his drawings pop off the page and come to life.
Written and directed by Kevin Dietzler of Upper Darby, "A Disney Spectacular" is a show that moves from one Disney song to the next. "It's all about the music and the movement," says Kevin. "It's Disney done in a new and exciting way. We really want to inspire the young audience, for them to see Walt as a young boy and realize that they too, can create, imagine and dream big!"
The mission of Upper Darby Summer Stage is to encourage young people to develop the magic of their talents, personality and energy and to share that magic with our audiences through outstanding theatrical performances for the entire family.
