Touchstone Theatre, in partnership with the City of Easton and ProJeCt of Easton, will present William Shakespeare's The Tempest at Abbey Hill Theatre, 225 Porter Street in Easton on June 24 through 27 at 8:30 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. when ice cream from Easton's favorite ice cream emporium, The Purple Cow Creamery, will be available (for a modest price).
Touchstone Theatre, Bethlehem's award-winning ensemble theatre, now approaching its thirtieth year of producing and presenting of original and classic theatre here in the Lehigh Valley, is looking to expand its audiences in the Easton area. A new series of annual performances called Ice Cream and the Classics will be inaugurated at the new performance site--the Abbey Hill Theatre On College Hill, Easton, part of Greenleaf Video's home. Parking is available on the street and one block away at the Lafayette College lots.
Touchstone will be touring the work, first to the Baltimore Theatre Project in Baltimore, Maryland for a two week run, and then to Easton for four performances, inaugurating their Ice Cream and The Classics Series.
The production, The Tempest, one of Shakespeare's last and greatest fantasy romances, features three actors playing ten parts and one disembodied spirit, and was recently chosen by the National Endowment for the Arts to be part of their Shakespeare for a New Generation initiative. It runs a little over an hour and twenty five minutes, will be performed without an intermission. The production is recommended for ages 11 and up; younger kids are welcome to attend the 85-minute performance at parents' discretion. .
