Sue Serio to Emcee Delco Idol For the Third Time

FOX-TV's "Good Day Philadelphia" morning anchor Sue Serio returns to emcee "Delco Idol" for the third summer at The Media Theatre, beginning Wednesday evening July 11. She will add her welcoming personality to the popular singing contest during its five week run, through August 8.

"We enjoy having Sue Serio as part of the Delco Idol event," said Artistic Director Jesse Cline. "She has a terrific sensibility of what the competition is all about, adding her professional demeanor and charming personality to assist in creating a pleasant, fast-paced and memorable evening for all involved."

Her husband Bill Vargus will emcee the Junior version of the Idol contest on Sunday nights starting July 15. They were recently seen together in the play "Love Letters" which Cline directed.

The "Delco Idol" competitions remain the most popular vocal contest in the Delaware County region, with the winners (and, at times, the runners-up) moving on to professional careers in music theatre, such as the very first Delco Idol winner Lauren Cupples, of Glenolden, who appears frequently at The Media Theatre in its Broadway Series and has appeared on several regional theatre stages on the East Coast. Jack Raymond, another Idol winner, was recently seen in the role of Moritz in "Spring Awakening" and JP Dunphy, a previous top five Idol performer, was seen alongside Emmy winner Wanda Sykes in "Annie" as well as in other productions.

Sue Serio is very fond of the Delco Idol tradition. "The showcase for young talent adds something special to the summer –not just for me, but for the entire region," she said. "It's a starting point for those who are still in high school and a jumping off point for those who have either finished college or are in the midst of it. The competition builds confidence, and allows young artists to find a unique style of their own in front of a packed audience each night. It's education, it's entertainment, and it's all fun!"

The list of contestants in both "Delco Idol" and "Delco Idol Junior" may be seen on the theatre's website, where voting is also online. Each vote for favorite contestants is $2 and may assist in keeping someone in the competition, as the top vote-getters each week receive points added to the judges' scores.
