William Inge's 1950s drama Come Back, Little Sheba is the latest American classic to be revived by the Actors' NET of Bucks County.
Performing Jan. 20 – Feb. 12 on the Heritage Center stage in Morrisville, Come Back, Little Sheba "lifts the veil on the troubled marriage of a middle-aged couple. "Doc" is a recovering alcoholic who ekes out a living as a chiropractor. He and his wife Lola – who has let her appearance go – take in a young college woman as a boarder. The student's youth and beauty upset the household and ignite turmoil."
C. Jameson Bradley of Quakertown directs Tami Feist of Levittown as Lola and Brian Jason Kelly of Doylestown as Doc. Alexa Gutter of Yardley also costars as the sultry college student, Marie.
Come Back, Little Sheba also features Giz Coughlin of Doylestown; Ethan Daniel Levy of Plainsboro, NJ; Marco Newton of Yardley; Dennis McGuire of Levittown; Lance Amici of Philadelphia and Mike Culnan of Morrisville. Matthew Cassidy of Morrisville stage manages. Andrena Wishnie is lighting designer. Ed Correale of Levittown is sound designer. Costumes are coordinated by NET artistic director Cheryl Doyle of Morrisville.
"Although it debuted onstage in 1950 and became a smash hit movie two years later, William Inge's script is as relevant today as it was then," said Bradley, who also designed and built the show's impressive two-room set. "Doc and Lola love each other, but mourn lost dreams. When Marie – who is bursting with life and sensuality – arrives on the scene, Doc sees embodied in her all his dashed aspirations."
Come Back, Little Sheba runs four weekends: Jan. 20 – Feb. 12 at the Heritage Center, 635 N. Delmorr Avenue (Route 32), Morrisville – near the Calhoun Street Bridge. It performs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults, $17 for seniors (age 62 and older) and $10 for children (age 12 and under). Due to mature themes, parental guidance is advised.
