Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Concert Held at The Kimmel Center 2/19

Philadelphia-Youth-Orchestra-Concert-Held-at-The-Kimmel-Center-for-the-Performing-Arts-20010101

Maestro Louis Scaglione, President and Music Director of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra organization (PYO), today announced the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra’s performance on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts’ Verizon Hall. More than 100 of the region’s most gifted and talented young, classical musicians will perform Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 1 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 under the direction of Maestro Louis Scaglione, who is celebrating his 15th anniversary season with the PYO organization.

“As the only youth orchestra program of its kind in the region, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra has the unique opportunity to perform in The Kimmel Center’s stunning Verizon Hall,” said Maestro Louis Scaglione of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra organization. “The PYO organization prides itself on offering exceptional orchestral training and education to the region’s elite, classical, young musicians while providing great performances to the discerning arts patrons in the Tri-State region.”

Tickets are $20 to $30 and can be purchased by calling Ticket Philadelphia at 215-893-1999. For more information, please visit the PYO website. The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is located in Center City Philadelphia at Broad and Spruce Streets.

About the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra: Founded in 1939, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra organization is one of the nation’s oldest community music education and youth orchestra performance programs for gifted and talented students from the Tri-State region. Lead by Maestro Louis Scaglione, the organization’s flagship ensemble, Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO), provides the most talented students with advanced orchestral training and performance opportunities throughout the concert season. PYO’s companion ensembles include the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO), formed in 1996; Bravo Brass, added to the program in 2003; Philadelphia Region Youth String Music (PRYSM) created in 2007; and the Musicopia String Orchestra partnership, which began in 2008. Young musicians from ages six through 21 are selected by competitive audition and have represented the United States on five continents. The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra organization offers classical musical performances to the Greater Philadelphia region each year and supports musical education to children from Philadelphia’s more vulnerable neighborhoods through its newest after-school program launched in 2010, Tune Up Philly. www.pyos.org
