People's Light & Theatre Gives Back to the Community this Holiday Season

People's Light & Theatre is expanding its support of local charities during the holiday season. Funds raised this year following performances of Aladdin: A Musical Panto and This Wonderful Life will support four organizations: Chester County Food Bank, Home of the Sparrow, the regional chapter of the American Red Cross Disaster Relief, and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

For the past ten years, People's Light & Theatre has supported Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS through approximately $20,000 in annual donations from audience members attending its Panto productions. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is one of the nation's leading industry-based HIV/AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. "People's Light is deeply rooted in the local community and welcomes opportunities to partner with charities that are providing such important services" says Artistic Director AbiGail Adams. "Especially during the holiday season, we look forward to giving back to these inspiring community organizations."

This year People's Light has selected three additional organizations who will share equally in funds raised during performances of Aladdin: A Musical Panto, running now through January 6, 2013 on the Main Stage, and This Wonderful Life on the Steinbright Stage running November 29-December 23.

Home of the Sparrow provides housing and supportive services to homeless and low-income women and their children in southeastern Pennsylvania, mostly Chester County, who want to improve their lives and become self-sufficient.

Chester County Food Bank is an organization that collects, grows, processes, stores and distributes food to those who serve the hungry of Chester County. In the last two years, Chester County Food Bank has distributed more than 1.7 million pounds of food to those in need.

American Red Cross Disaster Relief is helping people especially at home in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, and around the world. The Red Cross responds to approximately 70,000 disasters in the United States every year. In these events, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, health and mental health services to help families and entire communities get back on their feet.

These three organizations were chosen not only for the important work they do in our
community but because of thematic ties to the story of Aladdin: A Musical Panto. People's
Light Company Member Susan McKey makes an appeal to the audience at the end of each
performance and says "Remember, you don't need to be a Genius or a Genie to make our very
neighbors' wishes come true."
