The Nichole Canuso Dance Company will host its first annual Benefit Cabaret on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 at Johnny Brenda's.

The evening will be hosted by Jeb Kreager (Mr. Marmalade, 2007) and Emmanuelle Delpech-Ramey (Oedipus at FDR, 2008) and will feature an excerpt from the sold-out 2008 Live Arts Festival hit Wandering Alice by Nichole Canuso Dance Company plus performances by Geoff Sobelle and Trey Lyford of Rainpan 43 (all wear bowlers, 2003; Amnesia Curiosa, 2006), Headlong Dance Theater (Explanatorium, 2007), Kate Watson-Wallace/anonymous bodies (House, 2006; Car, 2008), Martha Graham Cracker (Seen monthly with her band at L'Etage), Charlotte Ford (Flesh and Blood and Fish and Fowl, 2008), Barrymore Award-winner Kim Carson (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, 2008), Tempo Dello Spuntino (Pig Iron Benefit, 2009) plus more performers to be announced.

Featured events will include a Magic Photo Booth by the Philadelphia arts community's favorite photographer JJ Tiziou, a custom-made dance by Headlong Dance Theater, tarot card readings, and made-to-order hand puppets.

Guests will be able to bid on an array of auction items such as getaway packages to New York City, a hand-made bag by MADE-BY-HANK, AMEX gift cards, and many other dazzling items.

A 7:00pm pre-show party with the artists featuring complimentary cocktails, food, and music plus a first walk through of the event's auction items will be available for up to thirty guests. Tickets to this exclusive portion of the evening including the main event are priced at $50 and are only available online.

The event will open for general admission at 8:00pm, with performances beginning at 8:30pm.
General Admission tickets purchased in advance are $15. At-the-door tickets will be priced at $20.

The evening will conclude with a midnight dance party with DJ Laris Kreslins.

Benefit proceeds will allow Nichole Canuso Dance Company to continue its mission of supporting the creation of dance projects that exist at the crossroads of movement, visual art, and theater.

NCDC creates dance to explore and expose the complex beauty of seemingly mundane behavior. These dances celebrate the awkwardness, humor and surprise in human experience. Aiming to identify interstitial emotions the work amplifies through movement those things that can go unsaid or unnoticed. Physical patterns work in tandem with psychological momentum to create accessible puzzles. Through collaborative creation we invite the vulnerability and idiosyncrasies of the performers to permeate the work.

Artistic Director and choreographer Nichole Canuso places an emphasis on collaborative creation with designers and dancers in order to deepen ensemble intelligence and produce work that is fully investigated, embodied and legible.
