The Media Theatre, a non-profit entity since 2001, held its annual fundraising gala event Saturday night, February 27. An audience of over 300 sponsors, contributors, patrons and associates enjoyed a performance by actor Phillip Boykin, who took two days off from the National Tour of "Porgy and Bess" to bring his talents to the State Street stage.

The gala, entitled "A Celebration", kept the spirit of the late Walter M. Strine, Sr. alive by giving an award in his name. Strine had revitalized the theatre in 1994 so that a professional music theatre would be a cornerstone of Media borough. Jeffry Cadorette, a Rotarian and Vice-President of Administration and Development at Media Real Estate Company, received the first Walter M. Strine, Sr. Award for Consistent Advocacy of The Media Theatre. The award presentation was introduced by Strine's grandson, Todd. The honor has been established to be bestowed annually upon an individual or organization that has provided consistent support to the theatre while symbolizing Strine's commitment to the continuing dream of a professional music theatre at 104 East State Street.

"Each recipient of this award will have shown a strong commitment to maintaining the aspiration of Walter M. Strine, Sr.," said Artistic Director Jesse Cline.
