Duncan MacMillan's LUNGS to Make Philly Premiere at Luna Theater, 1/25-2/16

Luna Theater Company continues its 11th season wilth the Philadelphia premiere of Duncan MacMillan's LUNGS. Running January 25 - February 16, 2013 at the Skybox at The Adrienne Theater, 2030 Sansom St. Philadelphia, Penn. Two actors. A bare stage. No miming. No props. A 50-year relationship. 90 Minutes. In a time of global anxiety and political unrest, a young couple contemplates having a child. If they over think it, they'll never do it. But if they rush, it could be a disaster. What will be the first to destruct - the planet or the relationship?

Duncan (playwright) is a London-based writer, director and lecturer. He is the author of LUNGS which was produced in a Rolling World Premiere with the Studio Theatre, Washington DC and Paines Plough/Sheffield Theatres. LUNGS was recently nominated for Best New Play in the Theatre Awards UK (TMA) and the Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding Play or Musical at the Helen Hayes/Theatre Washington Awards and won the CBC Outstanding Drama Award in Canada. His play MONSTER won two awards in the inaugural Bruntwood Playwriting Competition and was nominated in the Best New Play category of the MEN and TMA Awards. It was produced at the Royal Exchange as part of the Manchester International Festival. His adaptation of Ödön von Horváth's DON JUAN COMES BACK FROM THE WAR for The National Theatre Studio/Finborough Theatre has been nominated for four Off West End Awards. He has been Writer In Residence at the Royal Exchange, Paines Plough and the Studio Theatre, Washington DC, a member of 'the 50' attachment at the Royal Court/BBC, is a TS Eliot Fellow, a member of the Soho Six, the Old Vic New Voices and winner of the Old Vic's Big Ambition Award. He is currently writing plays for The National Theatre and Soho Theatre and adapting George Orwell's NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR for Headlong and EUGENE ONEGIN for BBC Radio.

ABOUT THE CAST:

Charlotte Ford* is a Philadelphia-based theatre artist who creates avant-garde slapstick performance art that celebrates sublime stupidity with joyful abandon. She has toured her original work to the Traverse Theatre as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the London Barbican as part of the London Mime Festival, the Paris Maison de Métallos as part of Festival Paris Quartier d'été, and the Festival des 7 Collines in Saint Etienne, France. Original, collaboratively devised work includes CHICKEN (Philadelphia Live Arts 2010), Flesh and Blood & Fish and Fowl (Fringe First, Edinburgh, 2010, short-listed for Total Theatre Award, Philadelphia Live Arts 2008) and BANG, (Philadelphia Live Arts 2012). She has also collaborated in creating/performing original work with Pig Iron Theatre Company (Welcome to Yuba City {Barrymore nominations, Outstanding Supporting Actress, Outstanding Ensemble), Emmanuelle Delpech (Raymond), Lucidity Suitcase Intercontinental (Red Eye to Havre de Grace, Flamingo Winnebago), Rainpan (Machines Machines Machines Machines Machines Machines Machines) and New Paradise Laboratories (Don Juan in Nirvana). She has performed with 1812 Productions (Cherry Bomb {Philadelphia Weekly's "Best Supporting Actress in a Musical}, An Evening without Woody Allen, the upcoming It's my Party, Women in Comedy Project), Theatre Exile (Gruesome Playground Injuries, That Pretty Pretty or the Rape Play, Red Light Winter {Barrymore nomination, Outstanding Supporting Actress), Mr. Marmalade {Barrymore nomination, Outstanding Ensemble}), the Arden (Robinhood), the Lantern, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, the McCarter, and Brat Productions. She has been a teaching artist with Pig Iron Theatre, the Arden Theatre, Bryn Mawr College, and Arcadia University. She is two-time recipient of the Philadelphia Theatre Initiative grant, the Independence Foundation fellowship, and the 2008, 2009 & 2012 Leeway Art and Change grant. She was a 2011 and 2012 finalist for the F Otto Haas award and the 2012 "Best of Philly Theatre Artist" of Philadelphia Magazine. She holds a BA from Bryn Mawr College and an MFA from the London International School of Performing Arts.
