BWW Student Center's School in the Spotlight: Bucknell University

Bucknell's theatre and dance programs explore all phases of the dramatic arts: acting, directing, mask and makeup, scene, costume, lighting, sound, history, dramatic literature, and advanced studies in performance and design.

By studying artistic forms of other cultures and exploring a wide variety of artistic visions, students can awaken and discover their own creative impulses. Students gain exposure to an array of artistic media and styles, and art historical topics and approaches - both traditional and innovative.

The study and practice of theatre gives liberal arts students a deeper understanding of themselves and their world. They can awaken and discover their own creative impulses and imagination by inhabiting the poetic forms of other cultures, and they can develop an understanding of multiple perspectives by exploring the unique visions of theatre artists. The study and practice of theatre develops expertise in creative and collaborative problem solving, in visual and kinetic literacy, and in oral communication.

Bucknell offers a major in theatre as well as three minors: acting and directing; design and technology; and general theatre.

Each year, the department presents three major theatre productions, showcase projects, and "Cocktail Theatre," a series of one-act plays. These offer students opportunities to gain experience in performance, stage direction, design and technology.

The 2012-2013 production season comes to a close with the Dance Department's Choreographer's Showcase taking place April 5 & 6 at the Tustin Studio Theatre. The showcase is student directed by Samantha Gosnell '13 and Emily Hochman '14.
